Plantar fasciitis is a painful condition affecting the origin of the plantar fascia in the heel of the foot. It is caused by continual and repetitive stress which leads to microtrauma of the fascia, (the plantar fascia is a long band of fibrous tissue on the bottom of the foot that extends from the heel to the bases of the toes),resulting in degeneration, inflammation, and the formation of a heel spur. It is important to treat this condition in the early stages (acute), as late stages (chronic) can lead to permanent damage.
