Morning Juice – Ace Podiatry, Gold Coast

I have been continually amazed at how linked our bodies are; from specific enzymes being required for a vitamin to be broken down and absorbed, to a deficiency in one nutrient affecting a cascade of processes in the body; it seems not only is our musculoskeletal body linked (think ‘the thigh bone’s connected to the…knee bone’), but we truly are what we eat!

The concept of health is actually quite simple when it comes down to it: Eat fresh fruits, vegetables and a balanced diet of wholegrains (and meat if desired), and you gain all the nutrients you need. But even with my knowledge slowly building about nutrition and the keys to good health, I myself am still a slave to my taste buds, and often don’t eat the right things. Even when I think I am eating well, if I tally up the nutrient content, I am actually not eating enough!

So recently, after reading about the benefits of eating raw fruit and vegetables, I decided to experiment with a juicer. I was pleasantly surprised to find how tasty and refreshing some of these juices were.

Packed full of B vitamins for energy, Vitamin C for the immune system and antioxidants, juices are an easy way to get your daily serve of your fruit and veg. They provide the body with nutrients on a superhighway, delivering within minutes easily digestible vitamins, minerals, carbohydrates and countless phytonutrients (nutrients derived from plants, which are increasingly being shown to boost health). These nutrients not only boost health, but can prevent diseases from yearly colds and flu, to cardiovascular disease!

So if you have a juicer collecting dust in the cupboard, here are some recipes to get you motivated to get juicing!
